Sometimes, parenting three kids is so easy (Wait, what? Remind me that I said that). Other days, I get dizzy from my head turning this way and that way answering “What?” “Yes!” “Hold on a second!” “Don’t do that.” “In a minute.” “I said IN A MINUTE.” After yelling “I have only two eyes, but three kids to watch!” and “THERE IS ONLY ONE MOMMY HERE!!!!” today in absolute frustration, I figured it was a good time to post this poem I wrote a few years ago. How many times a day do your kids accuse you of not watching or not answering or not listening? Lots here. But I hear more than they think, and I really do try to look them each in the eye and listen whenever I can.
Mommy!
(just a second)
MOM!
(I’ll be right there)
MOM, look at this!
(these are words I often hear)
I cannot always answer
When you call my name
But I trust that you know
I love you each the same
There is just one mommy
to serve this army of boys
So patience, please, sweet monkeys
No need for yelling noise
Though I can’t always answer
or look directly your way
Please know I always hear you
and value what you say
Mommies are like magic
Listening through and through
I know it’s hard to wait,
But I promise I’ll get to you
It may feel like an hour
But, seconds, it will be
I’ll look at you and hear you
So please be patient with me
There is just one mommy
I’m doing the best I can
to raise you each so someday
you’ll be a kind and patient man.
I love your poem! It’s a good reminder to our kids to let them know we are always listening:)
Yes, Mommy hears everything!!!! LOL. AND, we genuinely care and love to listen. 🙂
This is great! I write poems as well, this one made me giggle so much! I needed that today, thanks!
So glad you liked it! Sometimes it’s therapeutic to get my thoughts and feelings — and frustrations! — out in rhyme! 🙂
